A message from the NHS in Devon: Vaccination is the way of out lockdown and the pandemic. An effective vaccine is the best way to protect people from coronavirus. The NHS has a clear vaccine delivery plan and will contact local people when it’s their turn to get the vaccine.

People who aren’t registered with a GP should do so as soon as they can.  This will ensure they are invited for the coronavirus vaccination when it’s their turn. Details of local GP practice are available on the NHS website.

With more doses of COVID-19 vaccines are available, the NHS is able to open more vaccination services, including the first larger regional vaccination centres. This is great news as it provides more options for getting vaccinated.

GP surgeries are working together in Primary Care Networks (groups of practices) to vaccinate local people in line with the priority list set out nationally by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) prioritisation.

Devon’s Primary Care Networks started the roll-out in phases, which means they are working at slightly different paces. They are working through each stage of the priority list step by step, as quickly and safely as they can to ensure patients can get vaccinated as soon as possible.

People who are eligible and who live near larger vaccination services will receive letters from the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service, telling them how they can book their appointment there. Patients who receive the letter from the national service and can travel to the Vaccination Centre safely are recommended to book using the details in the letter.

People have a choice of  attending the mass vaccination site, or waiting for their GP to provide it more locally. GPs will contact patients when they are able to offer the vaccine. Please don’t contact them about this in the meantime.
