Learn to shop safely online and avoid travelling in bad weather

One of the wettest years on record and communities being cut off can be bad news for people who need to get to the shops or pay bills. Shopping online can reduce the number of journeys you make and even save you money by widening your choices.

Over the next few weeks, the Silver Surfers Café will be focusing on safe and secure, online shopping.
Sessions are very casual and there is no need to book a place or commit to coming every week.
Learn how to:

  • keep your personal information safe;
  • avoid scams, and;
  • protect your credit card details.

Who is it for? Silver Surfers café has no upper or lower age limits but is generally targeted for an older audience. We are too polite to ask people their age but we estimate some are in their 80’s! If you feel you need help with your computer, tablet, phone or digital camera, you are welcome.

Do I need my own computer? No. We have laptops you can borrow for the session.

Where and when? Next session is Monday 14 January at 1:30pm. Then, every Monday (expect bank holidays) from 1:30-3:30pm at The Blackdown Healthy Living Centre, Riverside, off Lower Millhayes, Hemyock, EX15 3SH. Session are normally in the dining room or the training room.

How do you get a place? Just walk in. There is no need to reserve a place or commit to coming each week.

What does it cost? We ask for a contribution towards costs of just £2 per person; this includes tea/coffee and your connection to the internet. All tuition or minor repairs are free.
